THE POLITICAL PLATFORM
The Assyria National Assembly isn't an Assyrian party limited in its ideas to its members and supporters but rather it's the large Assyrian home where a politician, a thinker, a priest, an economist, a scientist, a woman, a student, a writer, and a poet... would find a suitable place under its banner. It's an assembly composed of all the Assyrian elements in the homeland and in Diaspora, and in its turn comprises the one united Assyrian entity.
Article I: The name: The Assyria National Assembly.
Article II: The nature of the Assembly: An Assyrian political assembly binding the Assyrian political and national Cause with its land Ashur (Assyria), based upon an agreement of principles and fate amongst all the Assyrian factions whether political, organizational, national, cultural, social institutions as well as independent personalities with their diverse political, religious and laity choices who have an absolute faith in the Assyrian national identity and the Assyrians’ national homeland on the land of Ashur (Ashur), who believe that these legitimate goals won’t be possible without their coalition, being aware of the magnitude of national and patriotic interests and as such realizing that they can’t be adopted by one faction and not the other. Thus, they reject the idea of individual political work and decision making, endeavoring to involve all the active potentials in order to re-affirm the national unity of Assyria’s people, depending on the democratic method as the most effective manner to complete the art of administrating the interests of our struggling Assyrian and Iraqi people for the sake of freedom, equality and the right of self determination.
Article III: The Assembly’s beliefs: The Assyria National Assembly believes that the Assyrian nation comprises the followers of (The Church of The East, The Syriac Church, The Chaldean Church, the different Evangelical Churches, however this doesn’t exclude any one who feels an Assyrian belonging whatever her/his beliefs or religious affiliations may be).
The Assembly firmly believes that present day Christians who are of ancient Iraqi roots, the Iraq before the Brussels borders treaty are certainly Assyrians. Moreover, the Assyrian expansion surpasses Christianity to other beliefs and religions on the condition that this be joined with a true feeling of belonging to the Assyrian civilization which comprises the essence of nationalism for every Assyrian person regardless where she/he was born or lived.
Thus belonging to Assyrianism is associated with belonging to the historical, cultural and civilized Iraq and not only to today’s geographical Iraq, even though today’s Iraq is the true logical Assyrian home because the Assyrians will not accept one day a land far from Nineveh to call home or to replace their civilized homeland for any reason nor for any price.
According to this reality of the Assyrian belonging, the demographic Assyrian existence and the state of expatriation which many Assyrians have suffered from over many centuries, but specially the state of dispersion, immigration and forced migration throughout the period of the 20th century during which the Assyrians had to go through another painful struggle with the attempts to doubt their national identity and true belonging to their national homeland Ashur [Iraq].
The Assyrian national belonging and the Assyrian belonging to Iraq the cradle of Assyrian civilization, are the priorities and the prelude to every political, social or educational task on the part of the Assyrian institutions whether political, religious, or social… etc. Hence, any Assyrian institution, political party, organization, or entity that doesn’t take these two points as the main goals or priorities of their work then they wouldn’t be serving that which is the true belonging to the Assyrian nation, civilization and culture.
Article IV: The Assembly’s Aims:
1. Preserving the Iraqi patriotic unity and recognizing the inveterate existence and the true Iraqi roots of the Assyrian people (without dividing it) constitutionally.2. Endeavoring to guarantee that the Assyrian people enjoy their national rights including the right of self administration within the one Iraq, being the true homeland through studying, planning and the mobilization for the Ashur region with its regional government and parliament, the study would be conducted by specialists and historians to determine the region’s map and study the activation of such a project specialized Assyrian committees in what concerns planning, the historical and legal matters related to such a project.
3. Working to build a lawful state with an independent judiciary system and to re-affirm the principles of democracy, fraternity, and equality between all the religions and ethnicities in Iraq, spreading the spirit of respect amongst the different Iraqi political factions.
4. The Assyrians homeland Iraq is the place of the first Godly revelation and the cradle of heavenly messages thus we find that the Assyrian people embraced and lived these messages, then some changed from one religious message to the other depending on the circumstances, times and place which divided this people amidst more than one religion, thus the national unity of the Assyrian people must be preserved as well as its political speech with all its religious and denominational affiliations.
5. Working to build cultural, educational, social and media institutions, specifically for the Assyrians within the designated ministries, enabling the Assyrian people to fulfill their cultural and civilized message as well as preserving the continuity of their existence and stability.
6. Working to guarantee the rights of the Assyrian people in Iraq, eliminating persecution and injustice against them where they live in their historical areas, working to return all their properties (lands) which were appropriated without any legal documents during then following both World Wars and throughout the past century.
7. Finding a solution to the Assyrian re-settlement reality: With respect to the great demographic changes which took place following WWI and the establishment of present day state borders. The rise of factional governments which didn’t believe in pluralism, individual freedoms or even human rights made the Assyrian people the first victims whereby they were forcibly uprooted from their own lands and almost all their original areas thus they became refugees in the homeland and in Diaspora. Thus, as a must, the Assyria National Assembly demands the elimination of this situation by returning all the Assyrian lands, villages, and pastures to their rightful owners officially and effectively along with proper compensation and the necessary means to re-establish life in these areas.
8. Working to facilitate the return of the immigrants and forced migrants from all over the world in general and from Syria, Turkey and Iran in particular, guaranteeing their legal rights by returning all their usurped lands, villages and historical properties on the land of Assyria (Ashur) and guaranteeing civil and secure living conditions in addition to paying the necessary compensation in this matter, Paying special attention to the children and grand-children of the survivors of the Simeleh massacre in granting them the Iraqi citizenship, compensating them and facilitating the process of their return to the homeland as a measure of alleviating the unjustifiable suffering and injustice which they had to endure.
9. Working on the Assembly’s development in a manner which will enable it to represent all the factions of the Assyrian society becoming in the process a genuine source of representation for the Assyrians in all international and patriotic assemblies.
10. Honoring the articles of the International Declaration of Human Rights and abiding by all the International Charters regarding this subject.
