ANA- Translation and Media desk
October 23, 2006Following an invitation from the Mar Oda peasants association, a number of land owners met for the third time in their efforts to demand compensation for their lands which were appropriated by the Ankawa airport authorities. The meetings resulted in forming a committee of 10 people in order to follow up on the issue with the officials in Ankawa and the governorate. This committee will also follow up on other primary issues related to these lands.
The committee will set up the meetings in order to formulate on behalf of the peasants, a formal demand of compensation for the lands which were appropriated. It's noted that the lands in question surpass in their area 10.000 Dunums and were seized by the region's Kurdish government after 2003 in order to build Arbil's International Airport. The committee members are:
1- Hanna Shabo Boutros
2- Frensi Shamoun
3- Yusuf Francis
4- Father Sabri Maqdesi
5- Janan Boulos
6- Anis abd el-Ahad

9- Souad al-Malih
10- Ziad SalmanArabic source: Kldo Oghanna for Ankawa.com
ANA - Note: This is not the first time that the Kurdish government seizes and appropriates Assyrian lands in the North of Iraq even though the land owners protest such actions, meanwhile they aren't even compensated and their complaints fall on deaf ears.
